The folks behind Beeswax Delights were kind enough to give us some behind-the-scenes details about their creations.
Q: Who is behind your company?
A: Emily and Arthur McKay are the owners and candle makers.
Q: How long have you been in business?
A: 15 years
Q: What kind of products do you make?
A: Beeswax candles in many shapes and sizes.
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are located in Floyd County, Virginia. We source as local as possible from beekeepers on the east coast. We farm to grow our food. Love the mountains for good water.
Q: Why do you do what you do?
A: We started in beeswax out of necessity camping on our land. It became clear we needed to make our own candles. It grew from there.
Q: What kind of impact do you hope your products make on the people that purchase them?
A: We like to provide smiles and some usefulness.
Q. How do you plan on furthering your mission from here on out?
A: We continue to make more designs every year, typically from customer requests. We like to meet the owners of the stores we deal with and growing relationships that way. It’s fun for us and we can tend to the farm because we make candles on our property.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: We set out 20 years ago to grow all of our own food — every meal, every day. That is still what we are striving for. Making beeswax candles is helping us to do that, in some sense. It’s part of our farming.
